H-1 Engine (Davidson Center) |
The USSRC displays an H-1 rocket engine in the Davidson Center. It was formerly displayed Space Hall in the "old" museum building. The H-1 engine was produced in several versions. This is an outboard engine, as it sports an aspirator for turbine exhaust gases. Inboard engines came in two varieties, an earlier version where the turbine exhaust gases were vented to a turbine exhaust duct on the S-I stage's aft skirt. Later versions of the inboard H-1 engine disposed of the turbine exhaust gases via partial aspirators. The H-1's thrust was uprated several times during the program. Initially providing 165,000 pounds of thrust, this was uprated to 188,000 pounds (for SA-5 through SA-10), then 200,000 pounds (SA-201 through SA-205; SA-205 launched Apollo 7), and finally 205,000 pounds of thrust (for the manned Skylab missions and the Apollo-Soyuz Test Project (ASTP). I have a number of H-1-related resources. As of now, I have not yet sorted through all of my pictures of the H-1 engine in the Davidson Center, but some other page references this location. Thus, this is a "place holder" version right now, with only the pictures actually referenced. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me an email to request me to prioritize the rest of these pictures. |
