From June through November 2017, EAA Airventure museum hosted a travelling exhibit consisting of artifacts from Glenn Research Center. Installed at the end of June, the exhibit coincided other Apollo-related events at the museum's annual AirVenture Fly-In Convention, including an Apollo 50th anniversary program featuring seven Apollo-era astronauts and flight director Gene Kranz. This exhibit included a number of artifacts which were previously displayed at GRC's on-site visitor center prior to its closing, plus additional artifacts. I'd emailed the museum in hopes of getting the Lunar Module Ascent Propulsion System engine turned so that I could photograph its interior, and they suggested that I wait until NASA came to take down the exhibit. I emailed John Oldham, GRC's exhibits specialist, to verify that it would be OK to photograph the engine while he was working. As it turns out, John was very accommodating, not only making the engine but many other exhibits accessible to me while he was taking down the exhibit and actively encouraging me to to photograph additional artifacts. As of now, I have not yet sorted through all of my pictures from the Celebrating Apollo exhibit, but some other page references this location. Thus, this is a "place holder" version right now, with only the pictures actually referenced. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me an email to request me to prioritize the rest of these pictures. |
