F-1 Engine Test Stand (Post-Demolition) |
By the time I visited MSFC again in September 2013, the test stand had been demolished and the site cleared of most of the rubble. Refer to the "Floor Plans - Foundation Plan at Bedrock and Subgrade Level Plan" and other drawings at the HABS/HAER survey of the F-1 Engine Static Test Stand. I approached from the back (northeast) of the test stand and walked around the north and northwest sides, entering the subgrade level of the former test stand from the flame trench at the west, and walking through the area previously occupied by the flame deflector. The test stand's propellant tanks had been removed in August 2012 and were stored elsewhere in the West Test Area; photos of the tanks also appear here. See "Floor Plans - Fuel Tank Support, Fuel Platform, and LOX Platform Plans" and "Building Section" drawings at HABS/HAER for additional information about the propellant tanks prior to their removal. |
