A-7 Engine (Indoors) |
The USSRC has a Redstone A-7 rocket engine which is displayed indoors; this engine was previously displayed outdoors. For a time, while the V-2 was displayed in Space Hall, this A-7 was displayed next to it. It has moved around a bit since then, even making appearances in the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. Some time in 2012, the Rocket Center placed Plexigas across the thrust chamber exit plane. While this protects it from the garbage that young children inevitably toss into the combustion chamber, this also impedes inspection of the interior of the thrust chamber and injector. It appears that this engine is one of those modified for the Mercury-Redstone Project; it is fitted with an auxiliary hydrogen peroxide tank. As of now, I have not yet sorted through all of my pictures of the indoors Redstone A-7 engine, but some other page references this location. Thus, this is a "place holder" version right now, with only the pictures actually referenced. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me an email to request me to prioritize the rest of these pictures. |
