LUT Segments & Crane

Two segments of Launch Umbilical Tower 1 (LUT-1) were refurbished and placed on display with LUT-1's hammerhead crane in the Apollo/Saturn V Center, just forward of the Saturn V and Command-Service Module 119 (CSM-119).

http://savethelut.org contains an excellent history and description of the Launch Umbilical Towers, including a bit about the restoration of the LUT segments displayed here.

I've also prepared a page with an overview of the LUT/mobile launcher.

Sadly, LUT-1 was demolished in 2004; it contained some lead-based paint that was considered an environmental hazard. Other than this display, Swing Arm 8 at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Swing Arm 9 and a white room in the KSC Visitor Center Rocket Garden, the white room at the Kansas Cosmosphere, and another white room at the USSRC, I am not aware of any surviving LUT components.

As of now, I have not yet sorted through all of my pictures of the LUT crane, but some other page references this location. Thus, this is a "place holder" version right now, with only the pictures actually referenced. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me an email to request me to prioritize the rest of these pictures.
