Mercury Spacecraft Sigma 7 |
The official NASA report on the Sigma 7 flight is contained in the Results of the Third United States Manned Orbital Space Flight, available from NASA in either HTML and PDF format. Sigma 7 sat in a corner of the gallery, which made it difficult to obtain a proper walk-around. After the Astronaut Hall of Fame closed in November 2015, Sigma 7 was relocated to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center's Heroes and Legends Building. It was mated to a Mercury-Redstone booster (even though Sigma 7 launched on an Atlas) and hung from the ceiling. Sigma 7 played a role in the 1984 Democratic presidential nomination race; read about it in my article, "The Political Career of Sigma 7." |
