Building 4200 Engines Throat Support Installation (April 8, 2008) |
|
The throat supports for the F-1 and J-2 rocket engines were installed just over a month before the engines themselves were installed. The throat supports appear to have been stored behind (or perhaps inside) Building 4205. They were loaded onto a flatbed trailer and driven the short distance to the front of the former Building 4200, where they were craned into position and anchored to the concrete slab that had been poured for the engine display. For more information about why throat supports were used, see my Alabama Space & Rocket Center F-1 nozzle extension memo. When I retrieved these photos, there was no date/time information associated with the individual photos (only a note that the installation took place on April 8, 2008), so I've assigned arbitrary, ascending timestamps to the photos (the software I use requires photos to have timestamps). |
