Miscellaneous Boilerplates

During the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs there was a need to train various personnel, especially recovery forces, in the proper handling of the spacecraft. Rather than manufacture extra production spacecraft (which would be not only time-consuming but also very expensive), the programs all employed the use of boilerplate spacecraft, usually low-fidelity mockups which duplicate only the specific spacecraft features (frequently only overall weight and center of gravity) necessary for the training purpose at hand.

There were a relatively large number of boilerplates manufactured, so many that it's not uncommon for schools, small non-space program-related museums, and the like to have been awarded a boilerplate for display.

This page is a collection of these boilerplates which are located at venues not possessing additional space program or aircraft-related artifacts which would warrant a separate venue-specific page.
