KC-97 Stratofreighter

The KC-97 is the tanker version of the C-97, a cargo plane developed from the B-50 bomber. Boeing turned the C-97 into a passenger airliner, the Boeing 377 Stratocruiser, which in turn was modified to create the Aero Spacelines 377PG Pregnant Guppy, used to transport Saturn rocket stages.

See the museum's Web page regarding this plane. More information about the various variations of this plane can be found here.

I've visited the museum twice, and they redid the signage between visits. The current sign refers to this plane as a Stratotanker, a moniker I've only ever seen in relation to the KC-135 tanker.

Aerial view.
