Gemini Astronaut Maneuvering Unit

The Air Force wanted NASA to test an Astronaut Maneuvering Unit during Project Gemini, in preparation for use by Air Force personnel during the eventual "Blue Gemini" missions. Additional information on the AMU preparation for Gemini can be found in On The Shoulders of Titans: A History of Project Gemini. The AMU flew on Gemini 9, but was not used due to the problems Gene Cernan had preparing to donn the backpack.

The Stafford Air & Space Museum also has a Gemini AMU.

The Air Force Museum displays a mock-up of the AMU. This mock-up appears to lack several thrusters and other details depicted on Stafford's unit.
