The sign accompanying the Shuttle ejection escape suit. It reads
SHUTTLE EJECTION ESCAPE SUIT
Shuttle Ejection Escape Suits were worn by astronauts during the first four
shuttle missions (STS-1 through STS-4) while NASA was still testing the safety
of the reusable shuttle spacecraft. The pressure suit was based on the U.S.
Air Force's S1030
suit worn by SR-71 pilots and would
protect the astronaut in case of emergency ejection from the orbiter. It
provided oxygen and protection from high-altitude code temperatures.
