The sign beneath the Miss Baker couch display. It reads

Background image above: Baker poses on a model of the Army's Jupiter launch vehicle, May 29, 1959. The Able-Baker mission and other animal flights paved the way for humans in space.

Baker's Flight Capsule

This small biocapsule housed the 11-ounce monkey, Baker. Electrodes monitored her condition in flight. Crewmate Able died four days after the mission during surgery to remove an electrode.

Baker's Paw Print

"Miss Baker" was tiny, but she became a huge celebrity. She lived at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center (image right) until 1984, when she died at the ripe old age of 27. Fans visit her gravesite on our grounds.
