Jupiter-C (aka Juno I)

The Jupiter-C and Juno I launch vehicles were created by taking an elongated Redstone missile and adding two or three upper stages, consisting of scaled-down Sergeant solid rocket motors.

The Jupiter-C had two upper stages and was used to test the ablative re-entry nosecones which were to be fitted to Jupiter missiles.

The Juno I added a third upper stage, allowing the resulting vehicle to insert a small satellite into orbit. A Juno I launched Explorer I, the first U.S. satellite. The vehicle on display in the USSRC Rocket Park appears to be the Juno I (rather than Jupiter-C) configuration, although the sign labels it a Jupiter-C.

As of now, I have not yet sorted through all of my pictures of the Jupiter-C, but some other page references this location. Thus, this is a "place holder" version right now, with only the pictures actually referenced. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me an email to request me to prioritize the rest of these pictures.
