It appears as though it might be the optical tube of telescope, although the primary mirror does seem to be very close to the aperture.

This photo seems to imply that there was an accompanying component which would have rested in the yellow cradle at center.

Note the F-1 nozzle extension being stored at right. The S-IC stage's nozzle extensions had been removed during my June 2005 visit.

Also note what appears to be two Instrument Units stacked up behind the nozzle extension.
