Saturn V Restoration (June 2005) |
I didn't know that the USSRC was restoring their Saturn until I happened to visit. The restoration effort couldn't have been underway for too long, as I saw them move and remove a fair amount of hardware. Without specifically planning it out that way, we happened to visit two more times during the initial phase of the restoration, in August 2005 and again in December 2005. This gave a nice overview of the restoration process. It was announced during 2006 Saturn/Apollo Reunion that the Saturn would be moved into its permanent building, and I did specifically plan on seeing that. The pictures here are arranged more-or-less by subject matter; I didn't think I had enough pictures to warrant splitting them out by stage into separate galleries. The work crew was split up into several groups so the pictures are not arranged strictly in chronological order: While one group was removing engines from the S-II stage, another group was moving parts to temporary storage. |
