"LM 62" Lunar Module Model

This is a model of an early concept of the lunar module. Although the sign at the Smithsonian dates this to 1963, I more commonly see this concept dated to 1962.

This concept features five legs (I understand that the early concepts called for fixed, rather than retractable, legs), four large windows, and docking hatches on both the top and the front. While very different from the final configuration, this concept has always been my favorite -- just something about the look!

For additional information on this model, see the lunar module evolution models at the Cradle of Aviation. Also see my Apollo lunar module evolution page and my LOR '62 pamphlet.
