Saturn I Block I Holddown Arm | ||||||||
The Saturn Dynamic Test Vehicle (SA-D) in the MSFC Rocket Garden rests on four Block I Saturn I holddown arms. When prepared for launch at LC-34, a Block I Saturn would rest on four of these holddown arms and four support arms, with the holddown arms under each fin position and the support arms interspersed. The Saturn IB and the Block II Saturn I vehicles both used a single, new type of holddown arm which performed both functions. These can be seen next to the Saturn IB in the Kennedy Space Center Rocket Garden and which supported the Saturn IB at the Ardmore Welcome Center prior to that rocket's demolition. As of now, I have not yet sorted through all of my pictures of the Block I holddown arms, but some other page references this location. Thus, this is a "place holder" version right now, with only the pictures actually referenced. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me an email to request me to prioritize the rest of these pictures.
