This H-1 is missing its turbine exhaust hood, allowing inspection of the second-stage turbine wheel. Picture 2 of 2. See my Mark 3 turbopump turbine diagram, or the cut-away turbine at the USSRC. My first thought upon seeing the black discoloration was that the turbine wheel had corroded from exposure to the elements, but it could just be soot from when the engine was (presumably) test-fired; compare to an F-1 turbine wheel or the interior of an F-1 heat exchanger. | ||||
