Drive-by of Launch Complex 13, another Atlas pad (although with a somewhat different gantry than that at LC-14). Picture 1 of 2. LC-13 was used for test launches of the Atlas B, D, E, and F variants. It was later converted to launch Atlas-Agenas, including the launch of Lunar Orbiter 1. Despite being added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, LC-13's gantry was demolished less than two months after my visit, on August 6, 2005. The Cape Canaveral Space Force Museum has a page on LC-13, and Spaceline has an informative fact sheet with many historical photos. In February 2015, SpaceX leased the remains of the launch complex, razed the rest of the facilities, and converted the launch complex to Landing Zones 1 and 2. | ||||
