F-1 Test Stand Load and Test

The F-1 Engine Test Stand at Marshall Space Flight Center was constructed to conduct single-engine static firings. Prior to its completion in 1965, the west position of the Static Test Tower was used for this purpose. The first F-1 engine test was performed in the F-1 Engine Test Stand on July 8, 1965 and a total of 107 tests were performed on it, the last taking place on February 13, 1969.

Of course, before an engine test could be conducted, an engine had to actually be mounted in the test stand. The HABS/HAER page on the F-1 Engine Static Test Stand contains a step-by-step procedure for loading an F-1 in preparation of such a test. The text on the following pages was taken from the above-linked HABS/HAER documentation.
