View of the cut-away injector.

What appear to be rectangular openings on the edge of injector actually are the oxidizer injector elements protruding through the fuel chamber. Liquid oxygen enters the LOX dome and is directed to the injector via 216 injector elements, arranged in eight equally-spaced, concentric circles. Each element consists of an oxidizer nozzle and a concentric fuel annulus. This concentric jet design brings the fuel and oxidizer into immediate contact when they leave the face of the injector.
