This device held the dual microphones and earphones associated with the Apollo spacecraft's communication equipment. It was worn under the pressure bubble helmet. Its shape and coloration gave it some resemblance of the dog "Snoopy" from the Peanuts comic strip, thus the name "Snoopy cap."
