Detail of the combustion flask on the turbine bulkhead.

Photo 1 of 2.

Fuel (alcohol) and air are injected into the combustion flask and ignited via the igniter. Water is then sprayed in front of the flame, superheating it. The resulting combustion gases and steam reach 1,500°F and 450-480 psi and are delivered via the large-diameter copper tubing at left to the nozzles which direct the gases to spin turbine.

This photo was taken outdoors, looking in through a window.
