The sign accompanying the penlight. It reads
Apollo 11 Pen Flashlight
On load from National Air and Space Museum
.
<
This penlight was part of an emergency tool kit aboard Apollo 11, assigned to Buzz
Aldrin on the first lunar landing mission. The "On" and "Off" positions are
clearly marked, as is the date of manufacture, "7-68". Although it has Velcro
to keep it in place, astronauts quickly realized that in space, a flashlight
stays put and doesn't need to be held like it does on earth! The next time you
use a flashlight, imagine what it would be like to not have to hold on to it!
