Some Saturn rocket models in one corner of the office. The left-most Saturn is a Block I Saturn I. With the mockups of the retro motors on the forward end of the first stage, but without the ullage engines on the second stage or the hydrogen vent lines on the interstage, this would be SA-3. The center model is a Saturn IB. This particular model dates back to when the weight of the CSM/LM was anticipated to be low enough to launch the entire Apollo spacecraft on a single Saturn IB. At right, of course, is a model of a Saturn V. This is a much higher-fidelity model than he actually had in his office. He kept that model on the same shelf as all of the other models, and had to have a notch cut in the ceiling to accommodate the model's height! | ||||
