The sign accompanying the FLEEP. It reads
Flying Lunar Excursion Experimental Platform: FLEEP
FLEEP was used in a research program to explore and evaluate design approaches
for a lunar flying vehicle. Handling and other piloting problems were studied
with the pilot in a standing position in the simulated lunar gravity field with
six degrees of freedom. The lunar rover
was chosen as the exploration vehicle.
The photo in the middle of the sign actually is a picture of the
Lunar Excursion Module Simulator
(LEMS) suspended from Langley
Research Center's Lunar Landing Research Facility. However, both the
LEMS and the FLEEP were designed to be used or tested in the LLRF.
