View of the forward end of the F-1 engine. At center of the photo is the gimbal bearing, in front of the LOX dome. On either side of the LOX dome are the oxidizer valves (strictly speaking, the No. 2 oxidizer valve is at left and the No. 1 valve at right). Also visible to the discerning eye are the fuel and oxidizer lines feeding the gas generator: If one follows the No. 2 oxidizer high-pressure duct from the oxidizer valve toward the top of the photo, one can see where it curves toward the turbopump outlet. The silver gas generator oxidizer line curves down from turbopump outlet and travels nearly straight across the engine, terminating below the green panel near the upper right of this photo. The gas generator fuel line is slightly more difficult to see; it is the largest-diameter silver line, peeking out from behind the No. 2 oxidizer high-pressure duct and travelling diagonally, disappearing into the shadows behind the green panel near the upper right. The left end of the line actually attaches to the No. 2 fuel high-pressure duct (which is not visible in this photo). Both gas generator propellant lines terminate at the gas generator ball valve. At approximately the 11:00 position on the LOX dome is the flange for the line supplying high-pressure LOX to the heat exchanger. To the left of this flange, just right of the flange connecting the LOX dome to the main LOX valve, are three red closures for the remaining heat exchanger lines. Under the LOX dome is the hypergol manifold. | ||||
