Kerwin Skylab Suit |
The USSRC for a time displayed Joe Kerwin's backup Skylab 1 (SL-2) suit. The suit had had its integrated thermal-micrometeoroid garment (ITMG, the white, Betacloth cover) removed, leaving just the torso-limb suit assembly (TLSA). See my page on the A7LB Skylab suit for additional information on the differences between the Apollo and Skylab versions of this suit. Frequently displayed along with the "suit cart," visitors were able to touch the suit. I felt a bit guilty handling the suit, but rationalized that I was documenting the suit and would treat it more gently than the typical young visitor. I haven't seen this suit on my couple of visits (these photos were taken in 2012). I know that the current curator was attempting to bring the exhibits up to more modern standards, so this suit may be off exhibit, perhaps in the museum's suit vault or awaiting a new display. As of now, I have not yet sorted through all of my pictures of this suit, but some other page references this location. Thus, this is a "place holder" version right now, with only the pictures actually referenced. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me an email to request me to prioritize the rest of these pictures. |
