Detail of the sea anchor ring. The sea anchor clipped onto this ring after splashdown. The sea anchor was equipped with a 50-foot length of 2,200-lb test nylon cord and lessened the Command Module drift and oriented the Command Module so that the side hatch was generally upwind. The sea anchor is not an anchor in the traditional sense, but is often described as an "underwater parachute". The flotation collar also attached to the sea anchor ring. Usually a bright white and located directly under the hatch, the tether ring commands attention, but this is the only place I've seen it in use. | ||||
