View of the sea anchor ring, located under the hatch.

The sea anchor clipped onto this ring after splashdown. The sea anchor was equipped with a 50-foot length of 2,200-lb test nylon cord and lessened the command module drift and oriented the command module so that the side hatch was generally upwind. The sea anchor is not an anchor in the traditional sense, but is often described as an "underwater parachute".

The flotation collar also attached to the sea anchor ring.
