J-2 Thrust Chamber |
One of the J-2 rocket engine thrust chambers (J-2148) which I saw in Building 7241 on Redstone Arsenal in 2009 (the one I then referred to as "engine #1") was transferred to the University of Alabama at Huntsville's Johnson Research Center in mid-2019. It was stored in the outside yard to the east of the building when I visited. I initially learned of the thrust chamber in June 2019, at the end of that particular Huntsville trip, so I was only able to take a few photos from outside the fence enclosing the yard. I was, however, able to arrange a visit that November to take detailed photos. The staff was very accommodating (as well as brave, as they rid the thrust chamber of some bees which had set up residence), removing closures and pointing out their favorite details. There were vague plans to erect the thrust chamber outside the building, but the COVID lockdowns interrupted. As of now, I have not yet sorted through all of my pictures of the J-2 thrust chamber, but some other page references this location. Thus, this is a "place holder" version right now, with only the pictures actually referenced. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me an email to request me to prioritize the rest of these pictures. |
