Detail of the turbine exhaust manifold
outlet.
The relatively cool exhaust from the gas generator is ducted through the
turbine exhaust manifold and vented into the main thrust chamber exhaust gas
flow. Some of the turbine exhaust is vented directly through these slits,
while some exhaust flows between the inner and outer wall of the nozzle
extension. The inner wall of the nozzle extension is comprised of 23 rows of
overlapping shingles; turbine exhaust is
also vented into the main exhaust flow at the injector slots where the shingles
overlap. The turbine exhaust thus provides a relatively cool film, preventing
the inner walls of the nozzle extension from melting.
