Stennis Space Center

Stennis Space Center is the current name for the Mississippi Test Facility (or MTF). During Project Apollo, the S-IC and S-II stages were test-fired here; since then, the facility has test-fired Space Shuttle Main Engines (SSMEs).

Prior to Stennis closing its on-site Visitor Center on February 15, 2012, one visited Stennis by exiting the freeway and catching a shuttle bus from a nearby freeway rest stop (Google Maps link to the rest stop. The Lunar Module mockup is north of the building, in a break in the trees (look for the shadow).

Google Maps link to the former Visitor Center (bounded by Saturn Dr. and Columbia Dr. on the north and south and Balch Blvd on the east). The rocket park is on the east (with the "hut" formerly housing the F-1 engine at the center of what looks like a baseball diamond) and the SRB casing to the north, parallel to and just south of Saturn Dr. There's a large shadow being cast by the observation tower in front of the Visitor Center.

Finally, there's an elaborate canal system leading to the test stands.

Stennis Space Center maintains a page about John C. Stennis, after whom the facility was renamed.

As of now, I have not yet sorted through all of my pictures from Stennis, but some other page references this location. Thus, this is a "place holder" version right now, with only the pictures actually referenced. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me an email to request me to prioritize the rest of these pictures.
