Overall view, from right to left, of the turbine, heat exchanger, and turbine exhaust manifold inlet.

Hot gas from the gas generator flows through the turbine, powering the turbopumps. Just aft of the turbine is the heat exchanger, which heats helium and oxygen to pressurize the fuel and LOX tanks, respectively. The gas is exhausted through the turbine exhaust manifold, where it is ultimately used to provide film cooling for the nozzle extension.

The four lines running to/from heat exchanger include (from top to bottom)

  • GOX return line
  • Helium return line
  • LOX supply line
  • Helium supply line
