Ambassador of Exploration

To honor the astronauts of the Heroic Age of Manned Space Flight, NASA granted each of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo astronauts a moon rock, to be displayed at their choice of museum. This is called NASA's Ambassador of Exploration program.

Slayton's family chose the museum bearing his name to display his award.
