Detail of inside of nozzle extension.

The inner wall of the nozzle extension is comprised of 23 rows of shingles. Relatively cool turbine exhaust gases flow through the gaps between these shingles, providing film cooling to protect the nozzle extension wall from the heat of the (much hotter) main combustion exhaust.
