When displayed at the Oklahoma History Center, Gemini 6 was located in a bright, sunny hallway. Restored in 2003 by the Cosmosphere, it was encased in what has become the standard Cosmosphere "aquarium" (similar to Liberty Bell 7 at the Cosmosphere, Gemini 3 in Mitchell, Indiana, and Gemini 12 at Adler Planetarium). The combination of the aquarium and the bright sunlight, of course, make for frustrating reflections. One advantage spacecraft' location was that it was overlooked by balconies from other floors, affording elevated views of the spacecraft. At the time, I found it somewhat odd that the Oklahoma History Center was chosen by the Smithsonian to display Gemini 6: The Stafford Air & Space Museum is only about an hour away from Oklahoma City in Weatherford and already had a wide array of artifacts from the space program. I thought that placing Gemini 6 at Stafford would have been a natural fit, especially since Tom Stafford was the commander of Gemini 6. I was pleased to see that this oversight was eventually corrected. As of now, I have not yet sorted through all of my pictures of Gemini 6, but some other page references this location. Thus, this is a "place holder" version right now, with only the pictures actually referenced. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me | ||||||||||||
