View of the heatshield on the aft end of the Service Module.

Picture 1 of 2.

The heatshield contains the SPS engine propellant service connectors (the fuel service connection is visible at the 10:00 position and oxidizer service connection is just visible at the 3:00 position, peeking out from behind the SPS engine), which allow fill and drain of the Service Module's main fuel and oxidizer tanks. The heatshield also covers the associated plumbing and the aft tank bulkheads.
