F-1 Engine F-6090 by Static Test Tower

By the Static Test Tower and the SA-T stage were an F-1 and H-1 engine.

My first impression upon seeing them were that they were in poor shape, but they look a lot better in my photos than in my memory. Perhaps it's because I've never seen an F-1 sitting vertically without its nozzle extension and because the heat exchanger on the H-1 is banged up.

Given that I didn't know how long we'd be at this stop (I've seen plenty of F-1s and H-1s, but never a Block I S-I stage), I concentrated on the S-I stage, taking few pictures of these engines.

Alan Lawrie has identified the F-1 engine as F-6090. This engine had been in environmental storage at the Michoud Assembly Facility in 1990 but was subsequently transferred to MSFC. In September 2011, a team at Marshall disassembled this engine to learn how it operated and to become knowledgeable about large liquid oxygen/hydrocarbon engines so that they're prepared for future programs.
