Building 4200 J-2 Engine Prep (Nov 2007-Jan 2008)

When I first saw this engine in front of Building 4200, I found its color unusual. That, along with its additional hardware, made me think that it must have been some sort of special R&D engine.

On a later trip to Marshall, I met someone from the restoration team, who told told me that he was tired of looking at the white J-2 at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, so he painted this one black and grey.

Here are photos showing its transformation from a normal-looking J-2 to its unique black-and-grey color scheme.
