This view of the spacecraft is taken from the Gemini G4C spacesuit window.

Note the round observation porthole. The early Mercury spacecraft (the unmanned missions plus Freedom 7, the first manned mission) had only these round portholes. Starting with Liberty Bell 7, the spacecraft was equipped with a much larger observation window.

Also note that the spacecraft's periscope door is open.
