Detail of equipment under hatch: Sea anchor attach ring, EVA handle, positive pitch engines, and part of the Block I umbilical.
The sea anchor clipped onto the sea anchor attach ring after splashdown. The
sea anchor was equipped with a 50-foot length of 2,200-lb test nylon cord and
lessened the Command Module drift and oriented the Command Module so that the
side hatch was generally upwind. The sea anchor is not an anchor in the traditional sense, but is
often described as an "underwater parachute".
The flotation
collar also attached to the sea
anchor ring.
