Walk-around of the solid propellant gas generator (SPGG).

Picture 1 of 5.

The SPGG attached to the liquid propellant gas generator and provided the initial gases used to spin the turbopump's turbine during the engine's startup sequence. After being ignited by the two igniters on the SPGG aft face, the SPGG produced high-speed gas to spin the turbine long enough for the turbopumps to provide high-pressure fuel to the LPGG, which then ignited and powered the turbine during the remainder of engine operation.
