The silver, hexagonal closures screw into the gas generator's igniter ports.

When prepared for firing, pyrotechnic igniters would instead be mounted on the ports. During engine startup, propellants would enter the the combustor through the gas generator's injector and the pyrotechnic igniters mounted on these bosses would initiate combustion.
