Titan I |

For some time, while southbound on I-75 through Georgia, there were countless dozens of billboards touting the "Orlando Vacation Bureau". The billboards all were trying to cleverly imply that they were somehow affiliated with Orlando theme parks, while at the same time trying to avoid any copyright infringement lawsuits. When we finally reached the infamous Exit 101 at Cordele, GA, while looking over our shoulder to catch a glipse of the Bureau (which turned out to be nothing more than a trailer home), we saw some sort of rocket. Turning around to investigate, we found it to be Titan I, serial number 60-3694. By the time we drove through Georgia again in the summer of 2009, the Bureau had apparently relocated (the trailer home was gone), but the missile remained. I have additional pictures of the missile from the 2009 trip, but I have not yet had time to post them. Come back some time later to see if I've finished up, or drop me an email to request me to prioritize the rest of these pictures. The missile has found itself very newsworth over the years. The local chamber of commerce once had a page of vintage newspaper stories from when the missile was erected. More recently, the Augusta Chronicle ran a story on the missile. A regional healthcare network even has a story about the history of the missile. I have a number of Titan-related resources. |
