The first stage is a single, solid-propellant rocket motor with four movable, thrust vector control nozzles and an exhaust nozzle control unit. The movable nozzles control missile attitude during the first stage boost portion of the flight. Each nozzle pivots through an angle of ±8 degrees in a plane parallel to the motor centerline and perpendicular to the pivot planes of the adjacent nozzles.
