B-25 |
The Internet tells me that the museum's B-25 is Whiskey Pete, although I didn't see any such nose art. The aircraft is painted with a tail number of BD-635, although its full serial number is actually 44-30635. The plane began its life as a B-25J but was converted to a TB-25N. The bomber was in the corner of a smaller area of the hangar, with a large number of windows behind it and some skylights in the ceiling above. The sunny day and the cramped quarters combined to limit the number and quality of the shots which I could take. It appears that the museum was in the midst of restoring the aircraft when the news broke that the museum would be closing: Engine nacelle panels were missing and there were several scaffolds around it. Also, part of the plane was bare aluminum, while other parts were painted a dark grey. Finally, the horizontal and vertical tail surfaces had been removed; whether this was for restoration or whether a crew had begun to disassemble the plane for relocation, I cannot say for certain (although it looked like there was a shipping crate in the vicinity). |
