Detail of the right part of the pallet.

At upper left and lower right, note hinge ear brackets which allowed affixing the carrier to the LRV aft pallet assembly (the lower hinge bracket appears to have been broken off). Pins were inserted in holes in these brackets, allowing the entire carrier to swing open.

The thin rod above the two retainers is part of the mounting mechanism for a sample collection bag on the back of the carrier, which was accessed when the carrier was closed against the pallet assembly.

The retainer tube at far right held the extension handle, which could be attached to a variety of tools to extend the astronauts' reach.

The rectangular retainer at left held the adjustable sampling scoop.

The two, low V-shaped clip retainer bracket slots to the left of the retainer tube (flanking the rectangular retainer) held longer-handled tools, such as the tongs and the LRV soil sampler.
