Detail of the left part of the carrier.

At upper left is the latch keeper (ear) which inserted into a clevis on the aft pallet assembly. A pin could be inserted to keep the carrier closed against the pallet assembly or removed to allow the entire carrier to swing open.

The cone-shaped cup at bottom-left (and the corresponding retention clips above it) held the gnomon.

Slightly below the upper gnomon retention clips is a retention bar. In its current closed position, it would secure tool handles but could swing open from the center of the carrier to allow the tools to be removed from the carrier.

The vertical bracket to the left of the retention bar, sticking out and up from the carrier, would hold a flat sample bag dispenser.

Note the low, rectangular tray partially in frame at lower right which held the hammer.
