Apollo A7L/A7LB Pressure Helmet Assembly ("Bubble Helmet") |
The exhibit included an Apollo A7L/A7LB-type pressure helmet assembly or "bubble" helmet. The pressure helmet assembly consisted of a transparent polycarbonate shell, a helmet neck ring (not installed on this particular helmet), a vent pad, a feed port, and a Valsalva device (also absent from this helmet). The helmet was secured to the suit's helmet attaching ring and provided an unobstructed field of vision. I visited this exhibit twice. During my first visit, I noticed that the helmet's feedport was improperly installed (the outside portion was on the inside of the helmet and vice versa). I notified the museum, and by the time of my second visit, the curatorial staff had corrected it. While I re-shot my photos of the feed port, I didn't re-shoot the entire helmet, so there are still some photos from my first visit which show the incorrect installation. |
